WHAT TO WEAR?

“What to wear?” is my favorite problem. I take fashion seriously because it’s not only a trend or something to wear. Fashion is a statement that represents who you are, and the character you want to be weather in theater, film or everyday life. What you wear changes your energy and mood; it’s important to choose an outfit that would make you feel great about yourself wherever you’ll be at.Being a costume designer, I design & style clothing and costumes for living and I enjoy it very much. I’m designing and making what I want to wear, and shopping and reselling & recycling whenever I find something great for my girls on film. Since the theaters are reopening, and there are more parties and events happening, I am taking private styling clients now. Just email me, and I’ll dress you up with my love..! y.

GIRLS ON FILM COLLECTION Concept by YUKA SILVERA

Yuka Silvera is an accomplished Japanese-American costume designer for the performing arts based in New York. Her fashion-forward costume design comes from her fashion background as a patternmaker/draper in Tokyo and New York. Her costumes have been described as “Couture Costumes”.

Yuka’s love for dressing-up started at a young age. She grew up in Tokyo, one of the most fashionable cities in the world. Ever since she could remember, she would dress up like her favorite actresses, characters in films, or singers at a time for her every day costumes. She is a shopaholic and owns many clothes, yet she couldn’t find the perfect outfit, so she’s designed for herself for special events.  What to wear is her favorite problem. She loves to dance to new wave music, especially Duran Duran, and plays bass guitar in the 80’s rock music cover band, the Cherry Bombs in her stage costumes.

You don’t have to be a celebrity or influential woman to not wear the same outfit after you’ve posted a photo. Yuka’s got many clothes that she wore only once, but couldn’t let them go. She has used the collection of her wardrobe for low budget projects, and her friends who admired her style have asked her to go shopping with her or borrowed them for their special occasions. She’s got compliments on her own designed clothes that she was wearing at events often. That’s when she came up with the idea of rental & retail shop. A collection of everyday costumes was born.

The collection is categorized by styles, scenes, and era, she’s renting and selling. The products are named after the girls Yuka was inspired by, as well as her original line of clothes that she designed, made patterns, cut, and even sewed at home with. They are almost all made in New York, or at a small production in India to support.

Yuka is an animal rights activist, she would never use animal leather, fur or feathers for her new designs. However, some vintage clothes and costumes have such trimmings, and she carries fur shawls and coats for theatrical costume rental only, at request. She also cares for the environment, and she has selected recyclable or reusable packages carefully.

5% of the sales, and 100 % of theatrical rental fees of the fur items will be donated to charitable organizations.

She hopes her collection will be useful for as many fashionable people as possible, and for costume designers and stylists as well.
